Experiences
Massage & Shirodhara
Slow, grounding bodywork and a calming oil ritual to help you release tension, settle the nervous system, and return to a clear, steady inner rhythm.
Overview
A ritual for rest and reset
These sessions are offered as part of The Forgotten Path retreat to support deep rest after movement, hiking, and daily practice. We work with your bodyโs current stateโstress load, sleep, digestion, and energyโso the experience feels both nurturing and appropriate.
Whatโs included
Two complementary therapies
Your session is guided by the retreatโs wellness team and aligned with your day-1 assessment. Timing and approach may vary based on your needs and the overall retreat flow.
Abhyanga-style massage
A slow, full-body oil massage designed to ease muscular tension, support circulation, and invite a sense of safety in the body.
Shirodhara
A continuous, warm stream of oil across the forehead (third-eye area) to help quiet mental noise and encourage deep relaxation.
Head, neck & shoulder focus
Targeted work for the places that hold stressโjaw, scalp, neck, and upper backโespecially helpful after travel or long work seasons.
Integration time
A gentle closing with stillness and hydration so you can re-enter the day grounded and present.
How you may feel afterward
Every body responds differently. These are common outcomes guests report during the retreatโespecially when paired with nature immersion, yoga, and quiet evenings.
โThe goal isnโt to push throughโit’s to soften, listen, and let the body remember how to rest.โ
Massage & Shirodhara FAQs
A few practical notes so you know what to expect.
Do I need prior experience with Ayurveda?
No. Weโll explain the session and keep it simple, supportive, and tailored to you.
Is Shirodhara safe for everyone?
Weโll screen for comfort and suitability during your assessment. If itโs not the right fit, weโll offer an alternative relaxation-focused treatment.
What should I do before my session?
Arrive hydrated, avoid a heavy meal right beforehand, and let us know about any injuries, sensitivities, or scalp concerns.
Will oil get in my hair?
YesโShirodhara uses oil on the scalp/forehead. Weโll provide time to rest afterward, and you can plan your wash based on the dayโs schedule.
What should I do after the session?
Move slowly, drink water or herbal tea, and keep the rest of your day gentle when possible. Many guests prefer a quiet evening and early sleep.
Can I request a focus area?
Absolutely. Tell us what youโre feeling (e.g., neck tightness, headaches, low energy), and weโll adapt within whatโs appropriate for your body.
